OPEN BEEF RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. The decisions of the judges are FINAL.
2. No equipment or decorative materials may be nailed, tacked, screwed or bolted to any part of the buildings or any fixtures
therein. The Fair reserves the right to charge the exhibitor for any damages.
3. If in the opinion of the Department Superintendent, if any exhibitor willfully violates any of the rules governing the Fair, all
premiums won by him will be forfeited and he may be subject to such other penalties as deemed appropriate by the
Department Superintendent.
4. All cattle must have an approved Health Certificate signed within 30 days by an accredited veterinarian showing that they are
free from contagious or infectious disease. Health Certificates will be checked before animals are unloaded. All out-of-state
cattle must comply with interstate shipping regulations and have an approved Health Certificate.
5. All bedding is to be provided by the exhibitor.
6. Exhibitors will be required to maintain their respective area in a reasonably clean and orderly condition at all times.
7. The storage of excessive amounts of hay, feed and straw will not be permitted in the barns.
8. The display of farm signs, banners, etc. over exhibits is encouraged. However, these displays must not block across the barn
vision, interfere in any way with other exhibits or within the conduct of the show. Neither shall they create a safety hazard to
animals or people.
9. All livestock exhibitors are required to furnish feed and hay.
10. The assignment of stalls and tack space shall be made by the department superintendent.
11. No smoking in the barn area. No alcohol in livestock barn before 9:30 pm.
12. All entries are due June 17, 2008. Entry fees are $10.00/entry/class. All entries and fees should be sent to: Jon Repair,
Drawer 897, Lexington, VA 24450.
13. No bull over 1 year of age will be allowed in the ring without a nose lead.
14. All cattle must be secured with a halter and neck tie.
15. Registration papers must be presented to the department head upon arrival on the grounds. All cattle must have registration
papers. Beef department will verify the tattoo.
16. Only cattle shown in recognized classes will be permitted in the beef barn.
17. Only two animals per exhibitor will be allowed per class.
18. Any animal which in the opinion of the Livestock Committee constitutes a hazard must be removed from the grounds.
19. FITTING: As appropriate for each breed group.
20. Commercial heifers will be grouped into 4 groups by age September 1, 2006 to March 31, 2008. There will be no more than
6 months age difference in any class.
21. Cow/calf class-one entry per exhibitor. Registration papers must be presented to the department head upon arrival on the
grounds. Only calves born between 1/1/08 and 6/1/08 are eligible to enter.
22. The exhibitor assumes all risk for damage or loss, either in person or property. It is further expressly understood and agreed,
between the exhibitor and the Virginia Horse Center, that the show incurs NO liability or obligation to the exhibitor, other
than to permit the exhibitor to use the grounds or buildings for exhibits.
23. Must be 3/4 or higher to show in Purebred class for breeds that recognize 3/4’s or higher as a purebred.
24. Medical Waste: The Virginia Horse Center provides special containers for medical waste (needles, syringes and other
medical supplies) disposal in each barn for exhibitors use. Medical waste must not be discarded in stalls, manure pits,
garbage cans or on the grounds. Medical wastes must be placed in appropriate containers located in each barn.
25. Longhorn’s will be shown using American Longhorn classes.

29. BREEDER FOUR HEAD: The exhibitor must be the breeder and first owner of the animal exhibited in individual classes.
The breeder and first owner must have the same member code. EXCEPTION: Cattle bred -and-owned by either a spouse,
legal children, brothers and sisters or parents of the exhibitor may be included.
**SUPREME CHAMPION: Grand Champion Female, Grand Champion Bull and Grand Champion Cow/Calf compete. DIVISION II - COMMERCIAL BREEDING HEIFERS To be Judged Saturday, July 19, 2008 following Purebred Open Breeding Cattle. ALL entries in the Commercial Heifer Division will be grouped into 4 groups by age September 1, 2006 to March 31, 2008.
