4-H/FFA LIVESTOCK
GENERAL RULES FOR 4-H/FFA LIVESTOCK EXHIBITORS


1. Exhibitors must be bona fide members of the Rockbridge 4-H Clubs or FFA Chapter by December 9 in order to show at the fair. First year 4-H or FFA members who have not shown at the fair before as a 4-H or FFA member, are required to attend and participate in two of the three workshops that have been set up.
2. Exhibitors will provide their own bedding, straw or shavings. Mulch will be available. ABSOLUTELY NO SAWDUST.
3. Exhibitors are responsible for cleaning their pen(s) at the end of each day, and piling the debris in a designated area.
4. No premiums will be paid to exhibitors who do not clean their pen(s).
5. Unruly animals may be excused from the show or class upon the Judge’s discretion. An exhibitor may be requested by the department Superintendent, 4-H Agent or FFA Instructor to remove any animal from the show ring or grounds that is a danger to the exhibitor, fellow exhibitors or spectators. Market animals excused from their class may be sold at the end of the auction.
6. No one is allowed in the Show Ring other than the EXHIBITOR, JUDGE, RING MASTER, AND PHOTOGRAPHER, unless requested by the Judge or Ring Master.
7. Feeding and management of the livestock must be done by the owner/exhibitor or immediate family. On show day only the exhibitor, other Rockbridge County 4-H/FFA member or immediate family may fit.
8. Dairy cattle in production, cattle with nursing calves or nursing calves may leave the fairgrounds at night.
9. The exhibitor of an animal must be the owner of the animal unless the owner has more than one in that class. In which case the owner will show one animal and a 4-H/FFA member will show the other.
10. The definition of Home Raised Animals is as follows: Any animal that is owned and raised by the exhibitor or immediate family of the exhibitor, (i.e. parents and/or siblings). This includes animals born on the farm or bought within one week of birth. The number of animals that can be shown are two Home Raised animals per department per exhibitor. All home raised animals of a species will show in one class and only the top ten will receive double premium.
11. Any class splits will be left to the discretion of the species chairman and executive committee, but there must be more than ten head in a class for a split to be considered.
12. Premium amounts listed on the sliding scale will be paid only if enough money is available.
13. Any animal going through a sale after the ownership and possession date stated in the rules and before the Rockbridge Regional Fair is ineligible to be shown and sold in the county shows. The animal(s) must be in continuous ownership and possession of the exhibitor by and after the specified dates.
14. The first highest bidder for a market animal at the 4-H/FFA livestock auction may donate the animal back for resale for the benefit of the Junior Livestock Committee or other non-profit charitable group. However, the resale cannot be the benefit of any individual 4-H/FFA exhibitor. NO ANIMAL MAY BE SOLD MORE THAN TWICE AT AUCTION. The sale commission is 6%.
15. ENTRY FORMS: Entry forms for 4-H/FFA and youth livestock to be exhibited at the Rockbridge Regional Fair must be obtained from the Rockbridge County Extension Office, 150 South Main Street in Lexington, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., at a Stockman’s Club Meeting or from the Rockbridge FFA Chapter. 16. Entry fees are as follows: Cattle - $5.00 per head per class; Sheep, Swine, and Goats - $3.00 per head per class. Exception- pair classes will only be charged entry for one animal.
16. a. Carcass show for steer entries at $10. Hogs, lambs, goats at $8. Entries may also be made online at: www.rockbridgefair.com.
17. Entries must be received by the Livestock Committee at P.O. Box 537, Lexington, VA 24450 and post marked June 11, 2007. Late entries will be accepted until June 18, 2007 with an additional $10.00 late fee per animal entered. NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER JUNE 18, 2007 unless postmarked JUNE 18, 2007 OR EARLIER AND HAVE THE LATE FEE WITH THE ENTRIES.
18. The use and/or possession of tobacco, alcohol or other controlled substances is prohibited. Members violating this policy will be eliminated from all 4-H/FFA Livestock competitions and will remove their animals from the fairgrounds. They will not be allowed to continue showing or competing in any 4-H/FFA Livestock activities at this years fair. Entry fees are not refundable for these violations. The executive committee will review the situation and may make further recommendations on discipline.
19. Medical Waste: The Virginia Horse Center provides special containers for medical waste (needles, syringes and other medical supplies) disposal in each barn for exhibitors use. Medical waste must not be discarded in stalls, manure pits, garbage cans or on the grounds. Medical wastes must be placed in appropriate containers located in each barn.
20. All exhibitors must wear clean jeans or slacks and a shirt with collar. Shirts must be tucked in. No tank tops or sleeveless blouses. No shorts. Exhibitors will not be allowed to show unless in proper attire.
21. All 4-H/FFA Livestock exhibitors will be given back gate passes (2 per family).
